Wow! Our house was shown five times in the past six days. That's the biggest flurry of activity we've had so far. Of course it is a bit of a pain right now since we are moving in 2-1/2 weeks and trying to sort through things and box them up.

We went out to the new house yesterday during one of the showings. Our construction foreman asked us to do our own walk-through before we do the formal one with him. The list of things we came up with that still need to be done/addressed didn't completely fill one page of a notebook so things are looking good.

Fall has truly arrived. The maples are losing leaves and there is a lot of color around. I suppose that means we will need to rake soon.

I ordered extra memory for my computer and it arrived today. I'm looking forward to playing Civ III PTW with twice as much memory!

The house was shown on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and is scheduled to be shown again tomorrow and Sunday. Not bad! Hope someone makes an offer soon.

I spent some time this afternoon trying to get our online photo album updated. It took some work but all of the latest pictures have been added. It is good to get that project caught up again.

The house is coming along nicely. We went shopping the last couple of evenings and picked up some kitchen and bath hardware and ordered a house number plaque. Just over three weeks until move-in!

We've all had some kind of cold or virus this week. If I could quit coughing, I wouldn't feel too bad. DH & DD are doing better today than yesterday. Of course The Puppy is going around with her concerned look. She came to me about 2 am today so I could "save" her from the thunderstorm. Big ol' chicken!

Many Styx fans were saddened this weekend when it was officially announced that Glen Burtnik will be leaving the group to spend more time with his family. He is also working on a solo album "Welcome to Hollywood" which will hopefully be ready to release yet this year. Good luck, Glen!

I've scheduled an appointment for someone to measure the windows for blinds where needed. Drapes can wait if necessary. We now have a showing for Wednesday also. It is good that there is still interest in our house, but it would be better if someone would make an offer!

It is cold, rainy, and windy today. Nice day to stay in and putter around the house.

We ended up getting a little over two inches of rain from TS Isabel and no strong wind or severe weather. I know we were lucky compared to millions of others who saw the brunt of the storm.

We found a box of ancient documents in the back of one closet. Those have been shredded and that gives us another good box with handles to use for packing. We did some shopping for drapes and blinds and I went out and did a lot of measuring at the new house. Not sure I trust my skills in this area so we might hire someone to come in and do window treatments for us. I also measured the locations of the outlets, switches, vents, etc. so I can get a basic furniture layout ready before moving day. Filled more bags with clothes for charity--is there no end? I had the weekend off from some general cleaning but get to do it all again tomorrow and Tuesday morning since the old house is being shown Tuesday afternoon. We hope this is the one!

I think I should introduce the cast of characters around here. I'm the mama (stay at home variety) around here. DH (dear husband) is a professor, DD (darling daughter) is almost one year old, and The Puppy is a four year old Shetland Sheepdog (commonly known as Shelties) who thinks she is The Queen. The sidebar has a list of other folks' blogs. RCTN refers to the newsgroup rec.crafts.textiles.needlework and most (if not all) of the bloggers listed there also visit that online community. We discuss many types of needlework as well as other important things in life such as chocolate and wine. Needlework has been one of my hobbies since I was about eight years old and it is wonderful to share it with people from all over the world. Still waiting for the winds and rains of Isabel to reach us. Since storms usually come at us from the west instead of the east, we are seeing an unusual sunset rainbow before the storm tonight. The sky is brilliantly colored in the west also--reds, pinks, and oranges like tropical flowers.

The closet cleaning continues and I have another huge pile of bags ready to go. We were supposed to have an open house this weekend but the realtor is busy. I guess I'll be able to do some packing instead of scrubbing on Saturday.

We had a minor setback with the new house yesterday. A worker backed into the garage and buckled the foundation, messed up the drywall, and messed up the side door. Fortunately it is at the far corner and we don't have rooms over the garage so it is easier to fix than it could be. Our foreman assured us the house will still be done on time. Other than the mishap, a lot of advances have happened out there this week. I can't wait until next week when the carpet goes in; that will really make it look like home!

Right now I'm in one of those time frames where (when?) I can only think about stitching. We move into the new house in 4-1/2 weeks. Yesterday I managed to tote 68 pounds of old clothes off for donation and threw out even more that is beyond use. The upside is I finally found my old black hightops. Once I get the big closet emptied, I can start loading boxes and hide them in there so the house is still in "showable" condition.

For anyone who is thinking of closet cleaning, I recommend the workbook "ItsDeductible" to help assign values to items you donate to charity. While it is nice to just give without expecting or getting anything in return, I feel doing the recordkeeping for the tax break is my way of contributing to the family income since I'm no longer gainfully employed.

Watching the construction of the new house has been an adventure this summer. I was surprised how much the apparent size changed throughout the process. The foundation looked smaller than I expected but the house looked huge when the framing was completed. It got small again when the drywall was going up but seems larger now that trim, paint, and some fixtures are in. We have taken pictures throughout the process and you can see them by following the "New House" link at this site: Our Pictures. I have more pictures to add but don't know when I'll get them posted.
