Odds & Ends

"Weird Al" Yankovic's latest album "Poodle Hat" has been nominated for a Grammy. Congrats!

It cost us almost $100 to send out Christmas cards/letters this year not including the pictures inserted in the cards. This is to only 83 people. Over 1/3 of that was just the postage.

I did get a perm the other day so I've gone from tousled Pia Zadora to foofy-and-wild Bernadette Peters. The perm cost quite a bit less than the Christmas card project which surprised me. The perm does hide my grey well so I may not need to color much until the perm really starts growing out. I still need to get more frizzies trimmed off the ends.

It is fun to watch a baby attempt to pick up a blob of gelatin.

We got quite a bit of snow yesterday--7 or 8 inches, I think. It was sunny this morning but is clouding up now. DH said there was one car in the ditch at a corner near us when he went into town yesterday afternoon and four cars there when he came back home.

DH went back to the doctor when his antibiotic ran out and the doc said he still has some pneumonia so he has another week of medicine.

It is a good day to lounge around and read. I'm re-reading "Wizard's First Rule" which is the first book in the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

To anyone considering placing an order for doors with Thermo-Twin Windows (HQ in Pittsburgh, PA area), DON'T!!! These guys have chapped my hide for the last time and I want everyone to know how stupid they are.

DH placed an order for exterior doors in January of 2000 since the old house had ancient wood doors which were in dire need of replacement. They sent a person out to measure for a proper fit. The old house had odd size doors so we had to place a custom order. When the doors finally arrived MONTHS after they were promised, the shipment was a standard size that didn't fit. They were also supposed to be pre-hung doors with all trim included but one piece was missing on the front door. The installer was not employed directly by the company and he refused to return them. Instead he removed the thresholds to the house and jimmied with the walls. He also bought some tacky, cheap piece of painted wood to use where the trim was missing (the rest was varnished wood).

We repeatedly expressed our displeasure to this company. They contend that since the installer "made them fit" they don't have to do anything to correct the problem. Never mind that it often takes superhuman strength for one person to open the front door and the repeated forcing made the weatherstripping come off so we got a draft under the door. We also still get calls from their salespeople even though we have told every single one of them for a year and a half that we no longer consider ourselves to have a business relationship with them and they should place us on their "do not call" list. The person (Jodie) who called this afternoon exploded when I calmly explained to her that we were dissatisfied with the company, had repeatedly made "do not call" requests, and (the real kicker) no longer own the property she was calling about. She got increasingly rude with every statement I made until she finally hung up on me. I called her supervisor and complained but got the whole line of bull about how our phone number is disseminated to various divisions within their company and it is a manual system so they can't guarantee we won't get more calls. I told her if someone can take the time to send our phone number out to all of their divisions, someone can take the time to hunt them down and remove them or somehow note we will not accept any future calls from them. She also claimed that if we had ever expressed dissatisfaction with our order, a report would have been filed and a representative would have met with us within two weeks. That obviously *never* happened since their staff blew off our complaints.

Every single thing this company has done to us is wrong. They have been given repeated chances to make things right with us. They are the biggest bunch of screw-looses I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. I just hope I can help keep someone else from getting burned by them.
